Nokia Software Update – Vista compatibility problems
I am having difficulties running Nokia Software Update v. 1.3.85 on my Vista Business system. When I start NSU application it just hangs like that (see screen shot)
Then I have to kill it. I had exactly the same problem before (two weeks earlier) with my Nokia N73 phone. I fixed it then with turning off User Account Control in Windows Vista. I tried the same trick with Nokia N95, but it just doesn’t work.
I tried booting in save mode and starting application. It looked promising as NSU app did start correctly but the problem was that there isn’t any connection to the phone due to save mode.
I tried turning off firewall, antivirus … nothing helped all dough there must be a process that makes trouble and that should be killed for the NSU to work, I just cant figure it out which one. :(

Some comments would be appreciated …

I wrote support letter to Nokia and explained the situation. After two days they answer that they are aware of situation and that I should wait for the future update.
I couldn’t wait, so I used my friends computer with XP system to update my new N95. I advice you to do the same …
I had the same problem. But after uninstalling the Nokia PC Suite the updateprogram starts normally.
Nokia PC Suite installs automatic an update. Maybe is that the problem.
I updated NSU today and it works now with Vista no problem. I cant wait for the new firmware to come out, as 12.0.013 definitely has many bugs.
Thanks for your suggestion Pakko!
I cant understand NOKIA to ignore such problem as I see this post is still having big interest every day.
Do you still experience problems running with latest update?
Nokia Software Update still sux under Windows Vista. I really cant get it!

I managed to get it to start up by changing the port range that its service process is using. Haven’t yet tried to flash, but it gets past the “Starting application…” bit at the least. I modified
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Nokia\Service Layer\A\nsl_config.cfg
changing the ports so they’re in the 50000 range instead of the 60000 range:

With the latest update of Nokia Software Updater 1.4.56, everything works fine.
